Join us in the Atrium for our May Jam, a lively and welcoming afternoon of music and community on Saturday, May 30 from 1–3pm. Led by bassist Bruce Phares, this free, all-ages gathering invites audiences to relax, connect, and enjoy the spontaneity of live jazz.
Saturday, May 30th’s Jam In The Atrium has an unusual guest artist lineup, the Jam will feature two guitarists together with host Bruce Phares on bass; Brian Monroney and Jean Chaumont for a total of 16 strings between the 3 instrumentalists!
BRIAN MONRONEY: Upon jazz and session guitarist Brian Monroney’s landing in the Seattle area now some years ago, word went out immediately amongst top-tier musicians regarding this spectacularly talented guitarist, arranger, and educator, in reverent tones. Lauded by those in the know as a local treasure, “whose breadth of knowledge and experience is crystal clear the moment you hear him, armed with all the chops one could want, with the taste and restraint necessary to contribute to the music wisely.”, Brian is almost constantly on stage with many of the region’s top jazz artists. Humble and focused, a consummate professional, with beautiful and flowing ideas in his improvisational creativity, his duet performance with BP a couple years ago on island is still remembered as a highlight of 2023’s island jazz shows. JEAN CHAUMONT: A guitarist and composer of uncommon depth and purpose, both musically and socially, Jean Chaumont has emerged as a formidable presence on the international jazz scene. Born in France, he relocated to Princeton, New Jersey in late 2014 and promptly began work on his debut album The Beauty of Differences (out June 15, 2018), featuring world-class drummer Rudy Royston and eight-time Grammy-nominated vocalist Tierney Sutton. Chaumon’s playing t summons a strikingly crisp and warm sound and imbues his compositions with a bountiful lyricism, intricacy, and rhythmic propulsion. He has been featured in festivals and venues such as Jazz at Saint Germain des pres, Charlie Jazz Festival, Jazz at Vannes, Pleyel, the Olympia, and the Stade de France. Jean has also been commissioned for production, arrangements, compositions, and film scoring, including the full-length documentary “Le Bonheur en Suspens,” which was broadcast on French national television.
