In 1976, a small, passionate group of Islanders put together an organization called Drama Dock – and established a long-term commitment to telling culturally-enriching stories through community theatre. Every show draws from Vashon’s rich resource of talented actors, singers, dancers, set-builders, visual artists, costumers and helpers of every age and stage. Drama Dock has produced over 100 shows, including 28 musicals!
The Vashon Island Chorale engages, enriches, and unites our island community by providing opportunities for all people to participate in, learn about and enjoy fine chorale music.
The Vashon Island Chorale was established in 1989, and is dedicated to the promotion of fine choral music in the Vashon community. The repertoire of the Vashon Island Chorale focuses on major masterworks from the past four centuries. The Chorale also regularly presents works by local composers, including residents of Vashon Island and the greater Seattle area. Artistic partners have included members of Vashon Opera, the Vashon-Maury Chamber Orchestra, the Portage Fill Big Band, and the Signature Brass Quintet. Dr. Gary D. Cannon has led the Chorale as Artistic Director since 2008.
Vashon Center for the Arts partners with Vashon Island School District to enhance curriculum in the arts through our Vashon Artists in Schools program. Together, these residencies provide opportunities for students to engage more deeply with their learning, making connections between their curriculum, themselves, and their community. By bringing the arts to students in the classroom we eliminate barriers to access and aim to engage all students.
Vashon Island’s very own chamber orchestra presents family-friendly concerts throughout the year to highlight and feature the talents of local musicians and grow an appreciation for classical music.
Vashon Nature Center creates transformative nature experiences through community science, research, and education.
Vashon Opera’s mission is to enrich our community through the creation of opera in intimate settings. The Vashon Opera was founded in November, 2008 by a small collection of opera lovers who know opera can thrive on Vashon.
