Vashon Center for the Arts provides a home for many island non-profit organizations throughout the year.

VCA seeks to provide a community experience for everyone through partnerships with other arts organizations and non-profits who make use of our campus and facilities. Together with a wide array of partners, VCA brings a diverse and vibrant experience to all.

In 1976, a small, passionate group of Islanders put together an organization called Drama Dock – and established a long-term commitment to telling culturally-enriching stories through community theatre. Every show draws from Vashon’s rich resource of talented actors, singers, dancers, set-builders, visual artists, costumers and helpers of every age and stage. Drama Dock has produced over 100 shows, including 28 musicals!

Seattle Dance Collective (SDC) was founded in 2019 by Pacific Northwest Ballet principal dancers Noelani Pantastico and James Yoichi Moore. The initial impetus came from their mutual desire to curate shows enabling them to work directly with certain choreographers and perform specific pieces that, to date, had eluded them. During the early, formative conversations, Noelani and James quickly expanded their organizational vision to include a commitment to create unique opportunities for dancers and choreographers to collaborate for artistic inspiration and growth. In addition to furthering the development of artists, SDC is also dedicated to expanding audiences and deepening their understanding of the art form.  Through thought-provoking programs, SDC aims to provide the community with new access to the transformative power of dance.

Next Up: Old American Songs, April 18 & 19, 2020 at VHS
The nineteenth century was a prolific time for American songwriting. Choral composers ever since have been entranced by a cornucopia of folksongs, Shaker and revivalist hymns, African-American spirituals, and children’s songs. Selections from Aaron Copland’s Old American Songs join works by Northwest composers Morten Lauridsen and Tim Drewes. Another highlight is the cycle At the Water’s Edge by Kevin Siegfried with texts by American poet Sarah Orne Jewett.
