International Women’s Day Celebration

FREE Event
9am–12pm | Drop in anytime

Join us for a creative, community-centered morning of art, community, and celebration. Beginning at 9am (when coffee and pastries are available), we’ll offer hands-on gratitude activities and collaborative art-making inspired by the spirit of International Women’s Day.

Participants can create and take home their own work at self-guided art tables featuring gratitude collage and peace flag making, or join artist Stephanie Benson for a Thank You Collage experience. While creating, guests can also engage with the exhibition “Claiming the Wall,” a Women Painters of Washington Neighborhood Show featuring artists from Vashon, West Seattle to Olympia, and the Kitsap Peninsula (including Bainbridge Island). Founded in 1930 when women were excluded from the Washington Painters (men-only), Women Painters of Washington has a powerful historical connection to the ongoing work of equity in the arts. Our Gallery Shop will be filled with beautiful silver and gold handcrafted jewelry by Stephanie Benson.

At 12pm, join us for “Singing in HOPE for the Future,” a community singing circle led by Dawn Murphy of the Folk Education Association of America.

Throughout the morning, explore visual displays highlighting women’s gains and losses locally, nationally, and globally, compiled by Kirsten Gagnaire of Kati Collective.

Free and open to all. All are welcome

Land Acknowledgment
Vashon Island is the traditional homeland of the sx̌ʷəbabš (pronounced Schwa-ah-babsh) people, a once thriving Native community decimated by colonization. VCA is committed to stewarding this land, fostering creativity, and honoring indigenous culture through the arts.

Diversity and Inclusion
We celebrate diversity in all aspects of the work we do and support an environment of inclusion, racial equity, and social justice in our programming and operations. We welcome all individuals to our campus and steward them with respect and dignity. We hold our patrons and all affiliates to the same standard: our home is a center for all, regardless of race, place of origin, sex, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, or class.
