GRAMMY-nominated brass quartet The Westerlies hold a singular space in modern music. Comprising two trumpets and two trombones, the ensemble has spent fifteen years upending the brass tradition to create music that the New York Times calls "an arty quartet mixing ideas from jazz, new classical, and Appalachian folk" — and that NPR Music describes as "folk-like and composerly, lovely and intellectually rigorous."
Across ten critically acclaimed studio albums, The Westerlies have earned a reputation for exploring the emotional textures of American music, championing living composers and collaborators including Caroline Shaw, Nico Muhly, Aoife O'Donovan, and Robin Holcomb. Their singular sound has made them in-demand collaborators on GRAMMY-nominated releases from both Fleet Foxes and Aoife O'Donovan, and on stages from Carnegie Hall to Coachella.
2025 brought two major releases: Paradise, a reimagining of the Shape Note choral tradition featuring guest vocalists Sam Amidon and Aoife O'Donovan; and Songbook, Vol. 3, a live EP and concert film celebrating collaborators including Fleet Foxes, Adrianne Lenker, Anaïs Mitchell, and Joanna Newsom.
Proud Seattle natives, The Westerlies give back to their hometown community through an annual festival and educational initiatives reaching over 3,000 students each year — promoting the values of listening, empathy, and inclusion through music.
From Carnegie Hall to your hometown, The Westerlies bring precision, audacity, and warmth in equal measure.
