MLK Day Community Event: Living Voices presents The Right to Dream
Join Vashon Center for the Arts for a free community event on Monday, January 18 at 2pm in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
This year, we are proud to welcome Living Voices with The Right to Dream, a powerful multimedia performance that brings the Civil Rights Movement into vivid, human focus. Through dynamic solo performance and archival film, the story follows a young Black person coming of age in the segregated South, confronting racism, joining others in the fight for justice through SNCC, and discovering the courage to raise their voice for a better future.
From sit-ins to marches, The Right to Dream offers a moving portrait of youth activism, community organizing, voting rights, and the personal sacrifices made to move a country forward. Ideal for middle school through adult audiences, this performance invites reflection and conversation around democracy, race, equity, and civic participation—then and now.
