Vashon is about to experience something extraordinary for the very first time.
For more than 50 years, Cleo Parker Robinson Dance has transformed lives through the healing power of dance — building an institution rooted in African American traditions and dedicated to movement as a universal language of unity, healing, and joy. Since founding CPRD in 1970, Cleo has created and commissioned more than 100 original works, toured across 40 countries, and reached more than a million students through education programs. Named to the National Council on the Arts by President Bill Clinton, Robinson has performed at Lincoln Center, Jacob's Pillow, and on stages across Europe, Asia, the Caribbean, and the African continent.
CPRD's ensemble of ten exceptionally versatile dancers performs a dynamic body of works inspired by the African American experience and rooted in ethnic and modern dance traditions worldwide — delivering, as one audience member put it, "artistic experiences I can't receive anywhere else."
For one full week, CPRD brings their transformative residency to Vashon — leading school assemblies, master classes, and community workshops before culminating in one unmissable evening performance on the Kay stage. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for our island community. Don't let it pass.
