The Big Print Event Returns to Vashon!

Get ready for one of an exciting and visually spectacular events of the summer—and it's free and open to the public!

On Saturday, August 9, from 12- to 5 p.m., the Blue Heron parking lot will transform into an open-air printmaking studio as 28 Vashon print artists gather for the return of The Big Print Event.

For months, these artists have been carving large linoleum blocks inspired by the theme “Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water.” At the event, they will ink their hand-carved designs and create monumental prints measuring 36" x 24"—using an unconventional printing press: a steamroller!

Watch as the steamroller slowly rolls across the inked and carved blocks, applying tremendous pressure to transfer the intricate designs onto paper. It's collaborative printmaking on a grand scale—part art-making, part performance, and completely unforgettable.

The resulting Big Prints, created from combined carved linocuts, will be exhibited and available for purchase in the VCA Gallery during the 2026 Summer Arts Festival.

Come experience the sights, sounds, and excitement of giant-scale printmaking, meet local artists, and enjoy a day filled with creativity, community, and plenty of inky fun. Don't miss this unique opportunity to see a steamroller become a printing press!

Admission is free. Bring your friends and family and enjoy this one-of-a-kind celebration of art, imagination, and community.
