Accessibility For All

Vashon Center for the Arts strives to be welcoming and accessible, with a commitment to ensure that all patrons can enjoy and engage with the performing arts at the Katherine L. White Hall and Blue Heron Education Center. VCA meets all American with Disability Act (ADA) requirements.

If you have questions or would like to request a specific accommodation prior to an event, contact the VCA Box Office at boxoffice@vashoncenterforthearts.org or 206-259-3007. VCA Box Office staff members are also happy to assist patrons needing additional assistance when you arrive for a performance.

PATRONS WHO ARE HEARING IMPAIRED

Assistive Listening System:

ECA’s Assistive Listening System uses microphones, IR (infrared) transmitters, and receivers that enhance words spoken on stage by separating speech from the background noise. This system amplifies performers and brings the sound directly into patrons’ ears. The receivers can be coupled with headphones, ear buds, or a neck loop (for patrons using a hearing aid with a “T” switch) and may be borrowed from the ECA Box Office.

PATRONS WITH MOBILITY LIMITATIONS

Parking:

VCA offers disabled parking spaces in the main parking lot on the east side of the Katherine L White Hall. Guests are also welcome to drop-off and pick-up guests directly at the eastside doors. The glass door on the far right has an automatic opener. At the Blue Heron Education center, accessible parking spaces are located on the south side of the building adjacent to the ADA ramp which leads to the westside entry door.

Wheelchair & Accessible Seating:

The Katherine L. White Hall online seating chart indicates accessible seating for each performance. When selecting accessible seating during your online purchase, you acknowledge that you or a member of your party requires accessible seating.

Restrooms:

Wheelchair-accessible restrooms are located in the Katherine L White Hall adjacent to the Box Office. An accessible restroom at the Blue Heron Education Center is located downstairs on the south side of the building nearest the classroom.

SENSORY FRIENDLY PERFORMANCES

Occasionally VCA programming features a Sensory Friendly performance during a multi-event run of a show. These shows are great for all ages and include:

SERVICE ANIMALS

Service animals are welcome on the Vashon Center for the Arts campus and must remain on a leash or in a harness at all times. If you intend to bring a service animal to an event, please notify the Box Office at the time of purchase so an appropriate seat may be reserved for you. Fire Department regulations prohibit service animals from blocking entry or exit aisles and/or pathways. To comply with these regulations, you may be asked to relocate to another seat if such a situation occurs. The nearest green spaces for service animals are located on the east side of campus (Heron Meadow and Blue Heron Education Center lawn.)

Land Acknowledgment
Vashon Island is the traditional homeland of the sx̌ʷəbabš (pronounced Schwa-ah-babsh) people, a once thriving Native community decimated by colonization. VCA is committed to stewarding this land, fostering creativity, and honoring indigenous culture through the arts.

Diversity and Inclusion
We celebrate diversity in all aspects of the work we do and support an environment of inclusion, racial equity, and social justice in our programming and operations. We welcome all individuals to our campus and steward them with respect and dignity. We hold our patrons and all affiliates to the same standard: our home is a center for all, regardless of race, place of origin, sex, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, or class.
