Vashon Center for the Arts visual arts is open for 2020 Artist Exhibition Proposals for January to June 2020.

Deadline is Monday September 2, 2019 at Midnight PST

OVERVIEW

The programming for 2020 VCA galleries umbrella theme is “Social and Environmental Impact”. At VCA we believe Art provides an opportunity for more human connection—connection with ourselves, others and our natural world.

SPECIFICS

  • Open to all artists, with particular interest in artist residing and working in the Pacific Northwest (USA).
  • Solo and group shows are welcome to apply. If you submit a proposal for a solo show, your work may be exhibited with other relatable artists within a given gallery.
  • Only proposals with complete information will be considered. Partially completed proposals, unfortunately, will not be reviewed.
  • All work will be reviewed for selection by a jury.
  • Artists will be notified by email is their proposal is accepted.

GALLERY SPACE

This call is for exhibitions to be shown in two gallery spaces in the Kay L White Hall:

The Koch Gallery

  • 100 linear feet of hanging wall space
  • Up to 10’ high
  • 800 square feet of floor space

The Fong-Wheeler Atrium

  • 40 linear feet of hanging wall space
  • Up to 15’ high

January 2020 :  20/20 Inspiration and Homage

Exhibition opens Friday, January 3rd/ ends Saturday, February 2nd

  • Focus: 20/20: Inspiration and Homage. You know what they say about hindsight?  It’s 20/20.  Let’s start off this significant year by acknowledging the brilliant, creative visionaries who forged historical paths before us (whether they were publicly acknowledged for it or not).   Show us what visionary masters we should have in our 20/20 perspective?  These could be replicas with a twist or a visual nod to a work or an artist whose vision changed and inspired yours.
  • This exhibit is for the Fong Wheeler Atrium wall, 15’high and 40 ‘ long
  • Open to 2D art only, any medium. 

February 2020 : Race, Color, and Change

Exhibition opens Friday February  7th/ ends Saturday February 29th

  • Focus: In honor of Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Black Lives Matter, Black Futures and Black History Month our vision is to exhibit works that explore diversity, race, ethnicity and  marginalization by race.  We are looking for exhibits exploring  experiences of people of color and inspiration for cultural change.
  • Open to 2D and 3D art, any medium.

March 2020 : Women’s Perspective in 20/20

Exhibition opens Friday March 6th/ ends Saturday March 28th

  • Focus: In honor of the 100 year anniversary of the 19thAmendment to the Constitution and the suffrage movement that ignited women’s right to vote VCA will exhibit shows exploring women, women’s history, women artists, women’s experience.
  • Open to 2D and 3D art, any medium.

April 2020 : Earth Day: Reduce, Revise, Recycle – Revitalize!

Exhibition opens Friday April 5th/ ends Saturday April 28th

  • Focus: In honor of Earth Day VCA is calling for exhibits that focus on a connection with our natural world.
  • Open to 2D and 3D art, any medium. Recycling, upcycling, trash as art, natural world assemblage art encouraged.

May 2020 : Go Big!

Exhibition opens Friday May 3rd/ ends Saturday June 1st

  • Focus: The Big Art Show. Big concepts, big art. Works that are at least 3’ x 4’
    • This exhibit is for the Fong Wheeler Atrium wall, 15’ high and 40‘ linear hanging space.
  • Think big! Any subject matter.
  • Open to 2D art only, any medium.

June 2020 : Land Connections and #growfood

Exhibition opens June 7th/ ends Saturday June 29th

  • Focus: In conjunction with the 2020 VCA Garden Tour (of Vashon farms, sustainable agriculture and landscaping) the gallery will show works exploring our relationship to agriculture, our food supply, farming, Salish Sea, the social piece of food production.
  • Open to 2D and 3D art, any medium.

APPLICATION CHECKLIST

In the application, you will provide.

  1. All the expected contact information on how we can easily communicate with you.
  2. A clear proposal of a show description, why you work will fit exceptionally well with our exhibition theme(s) and an estimated number of works you anticipate being able to exhibit. (for example: 10-12 medium to large painting, oil on canvas, between 24″ x 36″ and 36″ x 48″ or 22 – 26 black and white photographs, framed 12” x 16”  and 18” x 22”).
  3. Which theme / month best first your proposed collection of work. Yes, you can apply for more than one.
  4. Prices for your proposed works (or an estimated range)
  5. An Artist Statement
  6. A brief bio
  7. Resume (PDF is preferred)
  8. If you are a lead for a group show please collect the above information for the artists you are working with and compile that info into a single narrative so it is clear to us why this group is applying together.
