Vashon Chamber Music presents its spring concert on March 22nd at 7:30pm at the Kay White Hall. Resident string quartet, the Girsky Quartet will be joined by pianist Jessica Choe and soprano Holly Boaz for a program of works by Higdon, Shostakovich and Dvorak. The concert opens with contemporary composer Jennifer Higdon’s string quartet “Southern Harmony”, a three movement work celebrating the harmonies, melodies and dance rhythms of the American south, inspired by memories of the composer’s childhood. The Higdon will be followed by Dmitri Shostakovich’s mesmerizing Seven Romances on poems of Alexander Bloch for soprano and piano trio. After intermission we close out the concert with Dvorak’s magnificent quintet for piano and strings, one of the most beloved chamber music classics for this instrumental combination. Tickets are available on the VCA website or at the door.
