The Lexicon of Light art project curated by Michael Elenko aims to integrate the storytelling power of poetry and photography. The resulting interplay of poetic verse and photographic imagery exhibition is on display during which is National Poetry Month and also during VCA’s 3-day Literature Conference. The Lexicon of Light aims to turn the traditional practice of ekphrasis inside out. Ekphrasis involves a poetic interpretation of a visual work of art, whereas, the objective of The Lexicon of Light is to transform personal impressions of poetry into photographic images.
Vashon poets composed original poems and photographers set out to transform their impression of the poetry into photographic images. Both will be displayed in the exhibition. Poets: Catherine Johnson, C. Hunter Davis, Susan Lynch, Ann Spiers, Thomas Hitoshi Pruiksma, Linera Lucas, Mary Rose O’Reilley, Cal Kinnear, Lynn Carrigan, Robert C. Leung, Margaret Roncone, and posthumously Ina Whitlock. Photographers Mary Liz Austin, Crystal Culp, Dawn Stief, Rebecca Cullimore, Terry Donnelly, Claudia Hollander-Lucas, Will Lockwood, Kent Phelan, Keith Prior, Shelley Hanna, Andrew Johns, Michael Elenko, Peter Serko, Kate Munson, Sherry Lee Bottoms, Anne Gordon.
