Explore the fundamental skills of jewelry fabrication – sawing, piercing, texturing, drilling, filing, sanding, soldering, riveting and finishing, including polishing. Complete three pieces of jewelry: a story pendant or pin using pierced layers of sheet metal; earrings created with wire or sheet metal using the doming block to create dimension, adding texture with hammers or the rolling mill and soldering on the posts; and a sterling silver band ring. Along the way, learn the proper use of jewelry studio equipment and tools with an emphasis on safety. Kate Dunagan teaches jewelry at Vashon High School ad has been dabbling in jewelry fabrication and casting for 40 years.
