From Canada to Mexico: Two months of wilderness cycling, plein-air painting, and an unexpected ending.
After a year of planning, Bruce Morser and Bob Horsley left Vashon Island August 2022 to begin another of their adventures combining cycling with a daily plein-air watercolor painting, perhaps something to top their cross-country ride of five years ago. As you might expect, everything did not go as planned: this trip became something a whole lot more, something to last a life time.
This time it was the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route, the world’s longest, off-road bicycle route. While stitching back and forth across the Continental Divide, the 2700-mile Great Divide Mountain Bike Route Bruce & Bob encounter stark deserts, 12,000-foot mountain passes, endless dark green forests, unbelievably remote prairie expanses, wild animals, and, oh yeah…. Grizzly bears. They also connected to the lives of the most unusual and remarkably delightful people.
Bruce and Bob will share their story at Vashon Center for the Arts, April 12: 7:00 p.m. as part of VCA’s Talks on the Rock series. Over 70 of their plein air watercolor paintings which they did in route will be displayed in the Atrium before the show. Plus “King Harald”, a key part of the story, will be video linked fro his home in Norway. Please join us.
