Angela Gist Named Artistic Director

(Vashon Island,WA) –  Vashon Center for the Arts is pleased to announce the appointment of long-time team member Angela Gist as the organization’s first ever Artistic Director.

The Artistic Director, in collaboration with the Board of Directors and the Executive Director is responsible for delivering a year-round performing arts program and collaborating with the Program Managers to support the artistic vision of VCA.  Specific areas of responsibility include programming, audience development, fundraising, and strategic planning.

“Angela has been an incredible team member and contributor to VCA the past nine years,” says Kevin Hoffberg, VCA’s Director of Operations. “Appointing Angela to this important new role allows her to channel her considerable talents and great love for the performing arts to the benefit of VCA, our performing arts partners, and all our patrons and guests.”

Angela has been involved  professionally in the performing arts for over 30 years.  Says Angela, “I began my career as an actor and dancer performing in the Trail of Tears Drama at the Tsa-La-Gi (Cherokee) Theatre in Tahlequah, Ok.  I’ve worked as a scenic artist and set designer and these days I claim playwriting as my hobby.  There is nothing like witnessing an audience experience and engage with your play.”

Angela points with pride to the time she spent working for Village Theatre in Issaquah, WA where she helped to develop and produce new musicals.  Some of the new works enjoyed Broadway runs and one even won The Pulitzer Prize (Next to Normal by Brian Yorkey and Tom Kitt)

Says Angela, “I really believe the future of VCA is one of endless possibilities and I’m looking forward to collaborations that present art that is relevant to our community, that is brave and powerful, and that celebrates life and all its complexities.”
