Kay Hall Events

The Katherine L White Hall is a beautiful 300 seat theater that opened in 2016 as a home for people, art, music, laughter, theatre and dance on Vashon Island. This state-of-the-art facility has hosted local, regional and international talent including k.d. lang, Judy Collins, Leo Kottke, Matisyahu, David Grisman, Della Mae, and Paula Cole.

RENTALS

Vashon Center For The Arts would love to host your special gathering. The Center is available to both public and private groups to rent for private events, parties, off-site meetings and retreats, lectures and much more.

Vashon Center For The Arts produces several wonderful series, including Art History Talks, Arts & Humanities lectures, Jazz Series, The Classics at VCA Series, and our Family Series.

Student films will be showcased in this festival celebrating the creativity of 4th graders at Chautauqua. Vashon Artists in Schools teaching artist Alisara Martin worked with classroom teachers Karen Barich, Shanon Browne, Laura Jensen and Chris Muller to teach students the fundamentals of digital animation. This interdisciplinary residency ties creative writing to video illustration and voice-over narration, where written word and visual imagery echo and reinforce each other. With a performance history spanning more than two decades, Pearl Django endures as one of the most highly regarded Hot Club style groups working today. After a spellbinding performance last February, Slava Gryzanov introduced us to another phenomenal classical pianist, rising star Albert Cano Smit. We are fortunate that Albert is making a special visit to Vashon Island this spring before returning to NY to resume an impressive season of concerts.

The 22-year old pianist was awarded First Prize at the 2017 Walter W. Naumburg Piano Competition. He has performed as soloist and chamber musician across Europe and America; and has been praised for playing "with the maturity of someone three times his age" (CBC Music), for his "dazzling technical and emotional dexterity and musicianship" (DNA) and "a superb musician has spoken" (Le Devoir).

The Vashon Island Chorale celebrates its 30th anniversary with familiar classics by Bernstein, Copland, and Fauré, but also with Vaughan Williams's sumptuous "Serenade to Music" and Borodin's jubilant "Polovtsian Dances". Local composers Eric Lane Barnes and Buzz Brusletten, plus a quartet of extraordinary local soloists, add to the festive and fun occasion.

Dr. Gary Cannon will deliver a pre-concert lecture 30 minutes prior to curtain.

Jay Thomas, a native of Seattle who grew up in the middle of the fertile jazz scene of the sixties, is a versatile multi-instrumentalist (trumpet, flugelhorn, saxophones, and flutes). His music has been described as earthy and lyrical with the blues and swing always in evidence. "You can recognize jazz as an art form," says Mr. Thomas, "but remember, it also used to be danced to. And that became part of people's lives."
