Connie Conroy: TRANSPARENT JAPANESE TEA HOUSE – a full-sized transparent Japanese Tea House created by suspending photographic transparencies with images of a traditional tea house plus transparencies representing tea utensils as placed in a tea ceremony.

Vashon Makerspace is a place where islanders can create, learn and share their art, will be represented with a large multi-discipline installation including an 8-foot wood chair, a 1200-pound cement chair, alternative photographic processes, handmade sculptural jewelry, and lathe-turned wooden vases and bowls

Wren will have a pop-up show for her originally designed tarot cards inspired by the dark days of the lunar cycle for the Friday night gallery opening only. Be sure not to miss out on meeting Wren and talking to her about tarot.
Saturday, August 4 12noon – 1:00pm JAPANESE TEA CEREMONY
The Japanese tea ceremony is a Japanese cultural activity involving the ceremonial preparation and presentation of matcha, powdered green tea. In conjunction with the installation in the Koch Gallery of a translucent Japanese Tea House using photographic transparencies, a demonstration of the Tea Ceremony is being offered on Saturday, August 4th, at ? pm. Using a Rye-rei, a special table for doing table chair style Tea Ceremony, Ms. Koyoko Matsuda, Sensei in the Omotesenke School of Tea, will host the demonstration.

Description: Orion, 14 years old, will have a 3D printer on hand to demonstrate its capabilities. He is an ardent advocate of the potential of a Makerspace and positive impact it can offer the Vashon youth and community
Laser Cutter & Etcher Demonstration
Artist: Jarod Kafron
Description: Demo on the potential and use of these great tools from GlowForge They can cut, engrave, and shape designs from a variety of materials.
Vashon Forest Stewards Pop-up Show
Artists: Sean Nelsen & Dominic Jovanovich
Description: Forest Stewards will be showing a selection of their wood art including a 7′ madrone table, a big leaf maple bench, madrone bench, and a selection of walnut cutting boards. All wood is local, was milled and crafted locally by forest stewards craftsmen. Vashon Forest Stewards are involved in local wood production from tree to table. Fsc Certified wood also available.
Robot & Wifi-enabled Computers
Demonstrators: Erik Rogneby & Dan Schueler
Erik Rogneby will be demonstrating an Otto diy robot, a walking, beeping, dancing robot with an open-source development environment. Dan Schueler will be demonstrating tiny programmable and very inexpensive wifi-enabled computers with sensors and displays.
