Could you include a bus shelter and seating for the bus stop in front? Will you utilize the lobby space as an extension of the gallery? Both buildings across the street and the Blue Heron building have a covered porch area this is a connection to the street, community and neighborhood. A modest timber and post garden trellis that includes a plexiglass rain shield on the west wall of the gallery could provide for both. With a vine and the planned trees it would also soften the scale of the building.

      Hi Michael,

Good idea. We’ll discuss with our project manager to see what code issues it will entail. Yes we will use the lobby space as extension of gallery but also feel it’s important that gallery has a stand alone presence. Regarding the porch – we have designed covered breezeway to mimic porches and landscaping planned to soften scale of building. Thanks for the questions!

Well done! Nicely informative, laid out, understandable, and inviting. Given article in Beachcomber this a.m., I think another article needs to be written about WHY 20,000 square feet are needed : what difference does this space make for acoustics?

      Amy,

Stay tuned for a follow-up post that will address the size of the theater. As you know, each type of music or spoken performance requires a different acoustical signature. The new auditorium has a variety of sophisticated features to change the acoustics to suit any performance. We’re so excited to have this ability to perfect the sound for every unique performance.
