LEADERSHIP

June 22, 2012

Sharon Nelson is our state senator representing the 34th district.  She is also an Islander. Sharon is an advocate for the environment and the founding president of Preserve Our Island.  She led the efforts to stop the Maury Island gravel mine. She recognizes the balance between preservation and responsible growth.

During the public comment period for our project by the Department of Development and Environmental Services, Sharon sent an insightful letter of support.  She understands that our new arts campus will “restore the vitality, particularly the economic and community vitality,” that Center has had in the past.

Sharon’s positions are always thoroughly vetted and researched.  She says, “I have reviewed the construction plans (for VCA) and find that it works well within the context of the intersection.  I like the public nature it brings to Center.”

We like Sharon because she’s a serious person who doesn’t take her role lightly.  It means a tremendous amount to us that she understands what the VCA campus means.

Verna, I am having difficulty opening attachments such as Sharon Nelson’s letter, and other letters you have posted. Is it just my computer, or do others have similar problems?
